One response to “Raising Them to Leave You”

Oh, can I relate! I have to admit that preschool drop off (beyond maybe day 1) never felt that dramatic to me personally, but that image of the rope pulling your heart tight is so apt. Just this year, I started leaving my boys (11 and 9) home for an hour or so to, say, go to the gym when they’re home from school, and it’s been great for all of us. The first time I did so, I asked my 9 year old how it was, if he missed me. He looked at me for a few seconds, then shrugged: “you’re usually in your office anyway, so I hardly noticed.” NICE.
