When my first was just a baby, I had a realization one day. I had been torturing myself, simultaneously feeling guilty about holding him too much and not holding him enough (!). I knew then that something in my expectations of myself and motherhood was out of balance, and I’ve been spending the past 5 years slowly releasing myself from that. I still have some self-doubts and sometimes second guess myself, but I do cut myself a lot more slack now, and I enjoy being a mom a lot more now too!
